Hiking
Hiking from the inn
The network of trails adjacent to the inn are actually the cross-country skiing trails used during the winter. These trails are less than moderate to moderate in steepness and are ideal for nature hikes. Trails are marked by signs, but a compass is always a good idea.
Hiking Vermont's Highest Mountain
The trail system on Mt. Mansfield is maintained by the Green Mountain Club. It is a network of trails that is well marked and provides some of the best hiking in North America. Trails leading up to the top of Mt. Mansfield climb almost 3000 vertical feet at a moderate incline. The Mt. Mansfield network is part of the Long Trail, which is a 265 mile trail system running from Canada to Massachusetts.
The views are well worth the effort: From the summit you can see west across Lake Champlain to the Adirondacks and Mt. Washington to the east. There are even overnight cabins for the hearty hiker that wishes to spend a night on the mountain.
Hiker's Tip Allow your self most of the day for hikes to and from the summit. Wear comfortable hiking shoes or sneakers. We reccommend bringing a lunch and plenty of water on your hike. Try a delicious bag lunch from The Edelweiss Deli, just down the street from the inn. Homemade sandwichs, breads and desserts. If you wish our front desk staff can order lunch for you and have it ready the morning of your trek. Need a Knapsack to carry your lunch? No problem, we'll gladly lend you one of ours.
Hiking Mt. Mansfield is recommended for adults and children in good health .
